MicWire
Our Choir | Your Choir | My Choir
We’re not pronounced ol’ McDonald or Mick from down the road, we’re not an Apple Mac or a British raincoat… we are pronounced…. Mic as in Mic Drop…. geddit? My choir (MicWire) - Kaboom!
It’s actually OUR choir and what a wonderful place to be on a Wednesday evening. Consider it a moment…
Do you want to learn to sing but can’t commit to 1:1 sessions? Well, here is the solution you’ve been looking for! We take on all the self confessed non-singers, new singers, scared singers and can’t singers.
There is zero pressure, but rehearsals provide an excellent stress buster and a vocal workout for your beautiful voice every week (term time). Group singing is an affordable way to acquire vocal, musical and harmonizing skills. Singing is known to increase happy hormones and improve wellbeing, so provides an excellent post-work meet-up. Pay on the door each week - when you come, we don’t tie you into paying upfront for rehearsals you might not attend. Instead we provide the tools you need to get the most out of the sessions during the sessions, and at home too.

“Everyone is so friendly and every Wednesday is full of laughter”
We're so glad you've found us.
Immerse yourself in the joyful elation that grows from singing with others. At MicWire, we offer a non-audition choir of local singers and lasting friendships.
By focusing on uplifting, fun and engaging rehearsals, our singing and music choices encourage joyfulness and movement for both our performers and our audiences.
We incorporate an easy mixture of singing, harmony, beatbox and body percussion into most of the songs we learn and we encourage and support solo singing and ad lib for those of you who want the opportunity to take the limelight.
The choir was founded by Cheshire Vocal Coach and Voice Researcher Kate Cubley, in 2017. Kate has a wealth of experience coaching, mentoring and teaching in vocal technique, choirs, voice health, breathwork and performance skills. This expertise is woven into the group sessions that we run whilst maintaining an informal, fun and enriching rehearsal experience.
The choir is completely open to new members and absolutely everybody is welcome to be a part of our chorus.

FAQs
Can I just turn up on the door?
Yes you can - however, it’s worth messaging in advance to ensure we’re rehearsing that week. Whilst we meet every Wednesday during term time, sometimes we move venue and occasionally we’re performing somewhere else on a Wednesday instead. If you message in advance, we can add you to our WhatsApp Group and send you links to our digital rehearsal folders
I’m not very good at singing, can I join?
Yes! We welcome singers at all levels. We are a community choir and there are no auditions. My mission is just to get more people having fun singing. If you enjoy hanging out with us, you’ll soon grow both in confidence and vocal skill just by turning up and trying! We work hard learning together and we promote friendships, vocal health, musical development, enhancing technique, all whilst having fun
I am really nervous about singing in front of other people, how will I fit in?
It’s up to you how you navigate this, but other members have found that singing in a group reduces their nerves. At the start of every session there are warm ups and / or ice breakers which are fun and silly. The warm ups are designed to reduce anxiety and play with the voice without any expectation of how it should sound.
I don’t read music, is this a problem?
Not at all - we mainly use lyric sheets, and when we do use sheet music, we teach you how to follow it along. There are no expectations from us, and we provide digital rehearsal tracks for our songs so you can work on them at home as well. Singing as part of a group allows you to sing out as much as you feel comfortable, and provides a wonderful learning experience, immersed in the voices of other singers sharing your line.
How many people are in the choir?
We have about 30 regular members and around 20 singers turn up each week. This is because at MicWire, we recognise all the other commitments our members have with their family, their work, taking holidays or travelling.
I don’t want to perform, is it still okay to join?
We love performing and there are several opportunities to perform with MicWire throughout the year. This doesn’t mean you have to - although it is encouraged, because we need to have enough voices in each part for performances, so we can showcase ourselves at our best - and that is always as a team!
I can’t come every week, is that okay?
Yes. I have designed the choir set up to suit the singers who can’t attend every week but still want to sing, socialise and even perform. So long as you can put the work in to catch up on missed sessions so you don’t feel behind, you’re welcome to attend even just for a sing song when you’re local.
How much is it?
MicWire is just £5 per week. That’s less than a cup of coffee in popular cafes and instead of a lukewarm caffiene boost, you’ll enjoy a 90 minute natural endorphin stimulant instead! Many of our members report feeling rejuvenated or energized after rehearsal.
It’s really cheap compared to other choirs, is it rubbish?
Okay, so noone has actually asked me that verbatim - but it’s worth knowing that the sessions are taught by me, Kate Cubley. I am a professional voice coach and functional breathing instructor and speak on this subject internationally. This expertise is intertwined into every session so you’re getting really good value for money. I have chosen to keep MicWire a PAYG choir so we can flex around your needs - and specifically so you’re not charged for weeks when you can’t attend. Since we started in 2017, the price remains just £5 per session and there is no upfront membership fee. It’s cheap because I don’t want to die with all the stuff I’ve learned stuck in my head.
Are there any extra fees?
We organise regular choir socials or awesome experiences like laying down vocals in the recording studio or performing at the Tower of London, for example. Similarly, our big celebratory charity concerts cost money to put on so there may be costs to cover things like food or other entertainment, if applicable. These experiences cost extra if you choose to join in and it’s entirely up to you whether you want to, no pressure!
