Singing: Science, Skill and a lot of Fun!

Ever been told you can’t sing? Or maybe you love singing but you don't sing in front of others fearing that you sound more like a strangled cat than a chart-topping artist? The good news is—anyone can learn to sing (yes, and you). The bad news? Well, you might have to unlearn some bad habits first.

What Actually Makes a Good Singer?

Great singing isn’t just about “natural talent” (though, some do have it). It’s actually a mix of:

Breath control – If your voice is the engine, your breath is the fuel. And if you’re running on empty, don’t expect to hit those big notes

Resonance & tone – Ever noticed how some people sound rich and effortless while others sound like they’re shouting into the void? That’s all about vocal placement and acoustics (which, can be learned)

Pitch & control – Contrary to popular belief, you’re not doomed if you can’t instantly match a note. It’s a skill—like driving, but with fewer roundabouts. And unlike many voice coaches, I work with everyone, from the poor-pitch singers to the pros - I want to help all of you get the results you seek

Confidence – A nervous voice can sound shaky and feel difficult to control. There are SO MANY great singers who don't share their voices because performance anxiety or nerves stop them. But did you know, that musical performance anxiety is really common and there are lots of things we can do to manage it?

Intentional Practice – I believe that the desire to improve and a healthy dose of critical reflection is a vital ingredient. Building self-efficacy, autonomy in your own listening, building regular practice routines and healthy habits alongside playing with sounds and shapes to enhance your vocal toolkit allows you to take your progression into your own hands and reach the goals you set for yourself!

But Singing Shouldn’t Feel Like a Science Lesson

You all know that I love the science of singing (seriously, I could talk about it all day), but I also get that most people don’t want a full anatomy lecture when they’re just trying to sing their favourite song. The trick is learning the technical bits without making it feel like school.
